Store's spelling mistake is unexpected Facebook hit

A mini-market in Birstall, Leicestershire, is proving a big hit on Facebook - following a spelling mistake on its signage. The sign, for the Kingsgate Mini Market in Kingsgate Avenue, should have said "confectionery", but was spelled as "confesionary" to the delight of local residents, reports LeicestershireLive.

The news featured on a community Facebook page, and many have seen the funny side of the mistake. One resident even wants the mistake to remain as it's a local talking point and helps raise a smile.

The initial poster who drew attention to the error wrote: "Someone needs a spell check on the new shop sign." Many then questioned if there was a priest instead of a shopkeeper manning the tills.

One person joked: "One stop shop. Buy your food and confess to your crimes - what more do you want?"

Christians believe the acknowledgment of their sins in a public or private place is regarded as necessary to obtain forgiveness from God. One resident sparked the joke, writing: "I mean, certainly beats going to church… more convenient for sure."

To which another replied: "You never know… might be a vicar inside to confess our sins." Someone else added: "Could come in handy if the local church is closed. I can get all my sins off my chest".

A Facebook user, alleging to be the store owner, assured residents the mistake was due to be fixed. He wrote: "Hi, this is the corner shop man. Your comments are hilarious. Made my day. We are aware of the spelling mistake and it will be fixed in no time."

The imminent correction hasn't met with universal approval, however, as one disappointed resident then replied: "I was looking forward to going in and clearing my conscience."
