Stopover in Hokkaido

(Credit: The Yomiuri Shimbun)

Flocks of white-fronted geese soar through the dawn sky over the Miyajima-numa wetlands in Bibai, Hokkaido, a stopover point on their migration north. The Miyajima-numa Waterbird and Wetlands Center, operated by the Environment Ministry, has confirmed about 60,000 birds have arrived so far. They will depart for the rest of their journey at the end of this month or early May.
