‘Stop trying to make people small’: Patsy Palmer explains why she shut down GMB interview

Patsy Palmer has explained why she stormed off Good Morning Britain, while suggesting that the show set out to make her feel “small and worthless”.

Earlier today (17 March), the former EastEnders star abruptly halted a video interview with the ITV morning show after noticing the on-screen caption being used to describe her.

The caption read “Patsy Palmer: Addict to Wellness Guru”, leading Palmer to inform hosts Ben Shephard and Susannah Reid that the wording was “not okay”.

Reid and Shephard both apologised to Palmer as she switched off her camera and ended the interview after barely 90 seconds, with Shephard explaining that the term “addict” referred to quotes used in Palmer’s 2007 memoir. Palmer was only appearing on the show to talk about her new wellness brand.

On Instagram, Palmer refuted Shephard’s claims.

“I haven’t written a book in 20 years so don’t believe that either,” the actor and entrepreneur wrote. “Guess what people!!!!! People change and grow and live happy healthy lives, so stop trying to make people small and worthless. Finish it now.”

Palmer went on to thank her fans and supporters, adding: “Hopefully you will all start living your best lives from now on ... Move on, we are supposed to change!!!!! It’s a human condition. Can’t you see how controlled we all are!”

Palmer, who was calling into GMB from her home in Malibu, has launched her own wellness brand named Good and Proper.

She is best known for playing Bianca Jackson on EastEnders from 1993 until 1999. She reprised the character from 2008 until 2018, and was scheduled to return to the show in 2020, but plans were halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
