‘Stop telling your supporters everyone is a Nazi’: JD Vance blasts Democrats after ICE shooting – but he called Trump ‘America’s Hitler’

Vice President JD Vance wants Democrats to stop calling people Nazis after a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Dallas on Wednesday. The attack killed one person being held by ICE and badly hurt two others.

The shooting happened around 6:30 in the morning when Joshua Jahn, who was 29 years old, started shooting from a roof near the Dallas ICE building on North Stemmons Freeway. The Department of Homeland Security said the gunman shot three people who were in a van at the building. One person died and two others went to the hospital in bad shape. No ICE officers got hurt. The shooter killed himself with his own gun.

According to Newsweek, Vance was speaking at a rally in Concord, North Carolina when he talked about the shooting. He said it happened because of politics and blamed the way Democrats talk. “If you want to stop political violence, stop telling your supporters that everybody who disagrees with you is a Nazi,” Vance said. He also told Democrats to stop calling police officers the Gestapo. FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators found bullet shells at the scene that had “Anti-ICE” written on them.

Vance’s old comments about Trump come back to haunt him

People quickly remembered that Vance himself had compared Donald Trump to Hitler back in 2016. Reuters reported that Vance sent a message to a friend where he said he couldn’t decide if Trump was just a mean person like Nixon or if he was “America’s Hitler.” People on social media and political experts pointed out that Vance was being hypocritical. The vice president has had a complicated relationship with Trump over the years, going from someone who criticized him to someone who supports him.

This shooting is just one of many violent attacks on political figures lately. Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson, who is 22 years old, was charged with killing him and prosecutors want him to get the death penalty. In June 2025, Minnesota state Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed in their house. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot in a similar attack but survived.

President Trump also talked about the Dallas shooting on his Truth Social website. He blamed what he called “Deranged Radical Leftists” for attacking ICE. Trump has said controversial things about violence and video games before, saying they make young people think violent thoughts. Trump said the attacks happen because Democrats compare ICE officers to Nazis and want to get rid of the agency.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the attack happened because the shooter hated ICE. She said officials have been telling politicians and news reporters to be more careful about how they talk about ICE officers. The Dallas ICE building has had problems with threats before. In August 2025, a man came to the building and said he had a bomb detonator.

The Trump administration keeps saying that the way Democrats talk causes violence, while critics say both parties use language that makes people angry. The fight about political talk and violence keeps going as the country sees more and more attacks that are about politics.
