Stood down hospital staff facing investigation

Two senior staff at the Blackwater Hospital in central Queensland have been stood down pending misconduct investigations.

The medical superintendent of Blackwater Hospital was stood down on August 7.

Also, the hospital's 46-year-old director of nursing is to appear at the Blackwater magistrate's court next month charged with fraud and possession of the drug pethadine.

She was stood down on August 8.

Police say they received a complaint from Queensland Health about two weeks ago and have been investigating since then.

To replace the missing staff, Queensland Health says it will use nurses from Rockhampton and a new permanent doctor has recently begun at the hospital.

Editor's note March 8, 2018: The director of nursing referred to in this story appeared in the Rockhampton District Court on December 10, 2007, charged with one count of stealing as a servant. She was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment, wholly suspended. There is no record of any action being taken against the medical superintendent.
