Stoneyburn boss hails side's 'resilience' in shock win over Syngenta

Stoneyburn gaffer Steven Sharp praised his side’s ‘resilience’ after picking up a shock 4-3 win over promotion chasing Syngenta.

Coming off a poor display last week in a 5-0 League Cup loss to Whitehill Welfare, the Fulshie bounced back in style at Beechwood Park.

The hosts conceded early on but were soon back on level terms through Ryan Robertson.

Syngenta would once again get their noses in front only for the hosts to answer back as new signing Lewis McKee bagged their second.

The topsy-turvy affair then saw Robertson net his second and give Stoneyburn the lead for the first time in the contest.

They were unable to hold on to that, though, as the visitors answered back.

There would be more twists in the tale, though, as Callum Robertson ensured Joe Brady’s effort crossed the line as he applied the finishing touch before goalkeeper Gavin McQuillan helped seal the three points with a late penalty save.

Sharp said: “We needed a reaction from last week and that’s exactly what we got.

“To go a goal down so early, especially off the back of losing 5-0 last weekend, and then to bounce back in the manner we did shows what sort of characters we have in this side.

“The resilience from them was tremendous to keep dealing with each knock and to get the win.”

He added: “The players deserve massive credit. It was night and day from last week against Whitehill.

“Maybe sometimes you get a shock win that’s a bit of a fluke but we had to score four goals to get the win and it was a deserved three points.

“The aim now is to build on that and hopefully we can climb the league and be competitive in both cups.

"This season was all about finding our feet in our first in senior football and there's been challenges. But we've now got a decent core signed up for next season and we want to be building momentum during the rest of this season to take into the summer and take steps forward next season."
