Stoneybatter named one of the 'coolest neighbourhoods in the world' by Time Out magazine

The Dublin neighbourhood of Stoneybatter has just been named one of the 'coolest in the world' by influential lifestyle magazine Time Out.

Stoneybatter rolls into the top 50 ahead of trendy hoods in cities such as Miami, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The well-known magazine ranked the area at number 42 in their global list of hip suburbs after surveying more than 27,000 people around the world.

Time Out's editors reckon that this has been one of Dublin's favourite districts over the past year thanks to a "string of great new openings".

They recommend that their readers eat in the newly-opened Italian joint Grano and go for a pint in The Belfry especially while also advising visitors to the area to ramble around the National Museum of Decorative Arts & History in the Collins Barracks.

They said: "From vegan cafés to hot new bars, Stoneybatter has stood the test of time.

"It’s one of the most central places where young people can still afford to live and the neighbourhood pride is strong."

Controversially, Phibsborough which came in at number 27 last year has been knocked out of the top 50.

The number one spot on the Time Out list of cool neighbourhoods went to Arroios in Lisbon, "a multicultural hub where street art meets food from around the world, underground culture and historical treasures."

Suburbs in Tokyo, Lagos, Berlin and Los Angeles make up the rest of the top five followed by locations in Paris, New York, Chicago and last year's number one, Embajadores in Madrid.

James Manning, Global Projects Editor of Time Out, said: “Time Out has
always been about helping people discover the best of the city, and
with this epic list our local editors and contributors have identified
the neighbourhoods that are setting the pace for city life in 2019.

He added: "These 50 neighbourhoods are places where you’ll find delicious food, incredible bars and cutting-edge art, culture and nightlife at every
turn, as well as proud, progressive city-dwellers promoting the values
of diversity and coexistence.
