Stones and Mendy back - Man City predicted XI vs Arsenal

Pep Guardiola could recall John Stones to his Manchester City starting XI for the visit of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal on Wednesday.

Stones missed the Manchester derby defeat for fitness reasons at the weekend, but the defender was not included in Guardiola's injury update on Tuesday so could feature against the Gunners.

Aymeric Laporte is also back in training, Guardiola confirmed, but given his injury problems this season he may not be risked so soon.

With City's priorities moving away from the Premier League, Guardiola has to also keep his full-backs fresh. That could mean a start for Benjamin Mendy after Aleks Zinchenko played the derby. On the other side, Joao Cancelo would benefit from another game to get some momentum going.

Similarly, Phil Foden should start in midfield for the third time in a fortnight alongside the returning Kevin de Bruyne - provided the Belgian is passed fit on Wednesday. If he isn't Bernardo or Ilkay Gundogan would start, with Rodri expected to continue in defensive midfield.

Up front, Riyad Mahrez should be recalled to attack Arsenal's full-backs, with Raheem Sterling looking for his first goal in 13 on the other side.

Sergio Aguero should complete the line-up, with 11 goals in 15 games against Arsenal.

Predicted Man City XI vs Arsenal: Ederson; Cancelo, Stones, Fernandino, Mendy; Rodri, Foden, Bernardo; Mahrez, Aguero, Sterling.
