Stoner films compete for Golden Ganja award

Cinema Oasis on Sukhumvit 43 will reopen its doors for the "Amazing Stoner Movie Fest 2022", which will bring a string of feature and short movies from around the world, from Thursday to Sunday.

The long-anticipated second edition of the festival will present 14 feature films, encompassing an outer space nightmare from Berlin; Korean weed people noir; an art world send-up of a toxic waste apocalypse from Latvia; a "hummus Western" from Israel and Palestine; and a mystical stoner Kung Fu movie from Brazil.

The line-up comprises six movies and two documentaries from the United States -- Da Big Zip directed by Nick Alonzo; Ninja Badass by Ryan Harrison; Sister Tempest by Joe Badon; Texas Death Trippin' Axtended Cut by Robert Lopez; 16 Bits by Aaron Steven Mento; Headchesse The Movie by Robbie Lopez; Illegally Alive by Mike Wise and Dale DiMassi; and The Secret Cup by Jeremy Norrie.

The other six movies in the programme include The Maestro by Paul Spurrier from Thailand; Shocking Marriage by Demetrio Casile from Italy; The Smoke Master by Andre Sigwalt and Augusto Soares from Brazil; Space Birth 2 by Marius Jopen from Germany (preceded by Hugo Chakra's Space Cruise Of Eternal Night); Troubled Minds by Raitis Abele and Lauris Abele from Latvia; and Weed People by Chang Gul Jeon from South Korea.

A selection of 45 short films and documentaries to be screened on all four days are divided into seven themed programmes including Deeper; Haunted; Cannabis Culture; Of Death And World Peace, Man; Apocalyptic & Divine; Sacred Plant; and Better Green Than Dead.

The screening will take place in two areas. In-cinema screening will start at noon tomorrow and on Friday, at 10am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday. Outdoor screening will start at 6pm.

There will be a Golden Ganja award for the best feature film and a Crystal Bong award for the best short film. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday at 5pm.

Tickets cost 150 baht per screening for indoor cinema (420 baht for a day pass on Thursday and Friday) and are available in front of the cinema. There is no admission fee for outdoor screening.
