Stoneman Douglas to re-open to students Feb. 27

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Marjory Stoneman Douglas High is scheduled to re-open to students on Tuesday, Feb. 27, the school district said Monday night.

Teachers and staff will return to the school at 8 a.m. on Friday.

After the Feb. 14 mass shooting that left 17 dead, a voluntary campus orientation will be held for students and their parents or guardians.

It will take place from 2 p .m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. A variety of support services will available on campus for those in need, school district officials say.

District officials say they expect the school will be on a modified schedule, but did not specify what it was.

Superintendent Robert Runcie said last week district that officials wanted to have time to make needed repairs to the campus and figure out how to accommodate 900 students who take classes in a three-story building where the shooting took place. That building won't be open this school year and Runcie is proposing it be demolished.
