ScotRail and Network Rail staff will stage the one-minute silence on Wednesday to mark one week since the trafedy,

Torrential downpours hit the north-east hard on Wednesday with a video from Network rail showing flooding on train lines.

The Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street passenger train left the tracks last Wednesday after it hit a landslide near Stonehaven.

The train had been turning back after coming across an initial landslip when the tragedy struck.

Hero off-duty train worker Nicola Whyte, 31, who was on the train, bravely walked around three miles from the wreckage to raise the alarm at a signal box at 09.43am.

Announcing their plans, ScotRail said: “To mark the passing of our colleagues Brett McCullough and Donald Dinnie, and our passenger Christopher Stuchbury, Scotland’s Railway will fall silent for one minute at 09.43am on Wednesday.

“We will be supported by colleagues across Britain, including Abellio and Network Rail. Our hearts remain broken and will do for a long time.

“We hope that by coming together as a railway family, along with the local community and people across the country, we can support one another through this horrendous time.”

Police and the Rail Accidents Investigations Branch have launched probes into the causes of the derailment.
