This is the stomach-churning moment a mischief of rates invaded a public space in the centre of a Cheshire town.
Footage posted on Facebook on Sunday (October 31) showed a number of the creatures exploring the grass around Municipal Square in Crewe town centre, close to the war memorial, CheshireLive reports.
It also showed a flock of pigeons gathered around what is believed to be a food source, which is likely what attracted the rats.

Posting the footage on Facebook, the resident said: "What a lovely sight for visitors to the town or anyone getting married etc.
"Loads of rats running around in broad daylight on a weekday morning on Municipal Square."
Some people were left shocked and disgusted by the images, with one person saying: "Dear god what next! So fed up of this town if it’s not one thing it’s another, the whole town is just feral."
Another person said they appear often in other parts of the town: "They have been in the bushes around town for years, the bushes between Tesco and Dunelm, also the bushes next to Asda near the clothes banks."
But many other commenters said they regularly see rats on the square and are not phased by it.
One said: "I've been seeing rats for months on Municipal Square. Sat on the Square with a sausage roll and hot chocolate with my son before his swimming lesson a couple of months back, and they run out of the little shrub displays, have a little wander, and then back to the little shrubs again.
"We we're actually quite entertained by them and sat watching them. We're not right though, we treat a house spider that is huge as a welcome family pet, so we're not easily phased."
