Stolen Royal Exchange Theatre van containing vintage costumes has been found

A van used to transport vintage props and costumes for Royal Exchange Theatre's Christmas show has been found - days after it was stolen.

The van was found on Vine Street in Salford, about five miles from where it was originally stolen on Thursday evening.

While the van was broken into, all of the contents containing valuable costumes and props were left untouched.

The van contained 12 laundry bags filled with handmade clothes dating back to the 1930s and 40s, including wool coats, dresses, kimonos and silk dressing gowns.

The vehicle also included old cinema chairs, which are to be used as props in the theatre's upcoming production of Gypsy.

Simon Curtis, Head of Production, said: “A huge thank you to Greater Manchester Police and for the huge support we have had from the public and other theatres."

The van was stolen on Wednesday morning from the car park of the Lancashire Fold Pub, in Alkrington, Middleton.

Gypsy will be performed at the theatre from November 30 to January 25 next year.
