The crash happened after police were called to a stabbing in Dayton, Ohio, US, with the suspect jumping into a police car and driving off, WTRF reports.

The suspect hit another police car and then raced through downtown Dayton, smashing into other vehicles, reportedly leaving two dead and at least 12 people in hospital.

Seven children and five others were taken to hospital, with three people reportedly suffering from life-threatening injuries, according to WHIO.

The fatal crash happened near the Dayton Metro Library, reports say.

The newspaper claims to have seen footage showing the police car being stolen by a man who crashed into another vehicle and a tree.
