Stolen pet urns recovered from Kilmarnock property as man charged

Stolen pet urns have been recovered from an address in Kilmarnock following an allegedly theft from a Scots crematorium delivery van.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged robbery, which took place on Drumleyhill Drive, Hurlfurd, on Monday November 9.

The van had been parked overnight with the ashes left inside for delivery to families the following day.

The suspect was held in police custody to appear in court.

Police now say a search of a property in Kilmarnock on Thursday November 19 has resulted in all other stolen property being recovered.

Chief Inspector Steven Meikle, Area Commander in East Ayrshire said: "Theft related offences remain a priority for our communities in East Ayrshire and our officers are dedicated to identifying those responsible.

"Crimes of dishonesty can leave a profound effect on victims.

"Officers have been working tirelessly on this investigation to bring the offender before the court and to recover the items which were stolen."
