Stolen Mercedes smashed into hedge after driver leads police on early hours chase

A stolen Mercedes was smashed into a hedge after the driver led police on a chase through Moston.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, according to a tweet by officers manning the GMP traffic page.

The force helicopter and a dog unit were scrambled to find the driver, the tweet said.

A person has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving.

Police did not issue any further details about the age or gender of the suspect.

Photos posted by GMP showed the luxury car after it crashed into a fence and collided with shrubbery.

The car had been stolen from a property in Failsworth.

The police tweet read: "This Mercedes C530e was stolen in a burglary in Failsworth this morning.

"Following a pursuit, crash and abandonment in Moston and a team effort between ourselves, the National Police Air Service, GMP Tactical Dog Unit and divisional staff, we have one arrested for burglary and dangerous driving."
