A man was arrested after smashing the stolen car he was driving into a lamp post following a short police chase.
Police said at 1.55am today they attempted to stop the driver of a Chrysler Ypsilon on Muirhead Avenue East.
The driver failed to stop for the police car on Lisburn Lane and took off at speed before hitting a lamp post at the junction of Townsend Lane and Priory Road in Anfield.

A 28-yer-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, driving dangerously, failing to stop, possessing a Class B drug, drug driving and licence and insurance offences.
No injuries have been reported by police and the driver was taken into custody.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At 1.55am today, Friday 15th January, officers were made aware of a Chrysler Ypsilon which had failed to stop on Muirhead Avenue East.
"The car was spotted by a marked police car on Lisburn Lane and followed for a short time before colliding with a lamp post at the junction of Townsend Lane and Priory Road.

"The driver, a 28 year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, driving dangerously, failing to stop, possessing a Class B drug, drug driving and licence and insurance offences."
