Stolen car smashes into house during police chase in Bolton

A stolen car smashed into the side of a house during a police chase through Bolton.

The white Volkswagen Polo was seen speeding down the M61 at more than 100mph on Friday evening.

When police asked the driver to stop, they refused and left the motorway at junction 6 before heading in the direction of Westhoughton.

Officers gave chase before the Volkswagen lost control and crashed into a house at the junction of Church Street and Glebe Street.

Two people tried to flee the scene, but one was detained by officers nearby.

GMP Traffic shared a picture of the damaged vehicle in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In a tweet, they said: "VW polo sighted M61 over 100mph Exits J6 +on being requested to stop is pursued through Westhoughton where it would crash on Church St. 2 make off. passenger is detained nearby. Vehicle would be subsequently reported stolen. Car seized for forensics. Enqs ongoing."

They shared an update later on Saturday saying the driver had since been identified, interviewed and reported for dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and failing to stop following a road traffic collision.

The car has since been seized by police.
