Stolen car loses control and crashes outside Glasgow school minutes after kids start class

A stolen car lost control and smashed into a road sign outside a Glasgow school minutes after pupils had entered the building.

The shocking incident happened yesterday morning (January 27) outside Eastbank Primary School in Shettleston.

Eyewitnesses told how the car, a white BMW, hit a speed bump 'at around 60mph' before smashing into a 20mph warning signpost outside the school. They likened the sound of the crash to the sound of 'an explosion'.

Two men were then seen fleeing the wrecked vehicle, the Daily Record reports.

Police have confirmed that the vehicle was stolen earlier that morning from a property in the Garrowhill area of Baillieston, just over a mile away from the school.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.30am on Thursday, 27 January, 2022 officers received reports of a white BMW car being stolen from the Garrowhill area of Baillieston.

"Around 9.15am on the same day, police were called to reports of a white car having crashed on Gartocher Road, Shettleston. Enquiries are ongoing."
