Stolen car driven through Sefton Park and dumped outside Palm House gates

A stolen car was driven through Sefton Park and dumped outside the gates of the Palm House this afternoon, prompting a police hunt for the driver.

The car, a black Nissan Almera, was reported stolen from a building site on Banks Road in Speke at around 1.10am on Sunday.

Officers recovered the vehicle in Sefton Park on Sunday afternoon, with a number of residents reporting on seeing a large police presence around the park.

A police helicopter could be seen circling overhead and several police vehicles were stationed in the park while officers searched for the driver and worked to remove the vehicle.

Photos taken at Sefton Park this afternoon show the car dumped outside the gates leading to the Palm House, a popular wedding venue on weekends.

Residents, dog walkers and families enjoying the park saw the vehicle abandoned near the gates, right outside the entrance to the Palm House.

Visible damage could be seen on the front bumper of the car, with tufts of grass poking out of parts of the bodywork.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police confirmed the car was insecure or unlocked when it was stolen from Banks Road in the early hours.
