Stokes Croft's newest barber shop is 'first of its kind' to open in the UK

While there's no denying that the face of Stokes Croft is ever-changing, the area is still famed for its lively atmosphere and independent spirit.

It's home to some fantastic businesses including shops, restaurants and nightclubs - and the latest to open is the first of its kind in the UK, according to its owner.

Cuts and Creps, which has opened a few doors along from The Love Inn, allows people to have their hair cut and trainers cleaned, either together or individually, depending on the customer's wishes.

It's being headed up by Drue Mock, an experienced barber who trained with Toni & Guy 10 years ago before working at various barbershops in Bristol for the past four years.

"My two passions are fashion and hair, so I really wanted to combine the two with my first business," said the 27-year-old.

"In the 1920's people could get their shoes shined and their hair cut in the same place, so I've sort of modernised that concept for Cuts and Creps.

"As far as I'm aware there are places where you can get your trainers cleaned in London and Glasgow, but there's nowhere else in the UK which combines it with barbering, so I'm pretty certain this is the first of its kind.

"I was fully booked on my first day and lots of people have said how much they love the idea, which has been really nice.

"Stokes Croft is the perfect area for a business like this and I can't wait to see what the future holds. It's really exciting being the owner of my own shop."

Drue spent almost one year bringing the idea to life and was able to get up and running thanks to the Virgin StartUp scheme.

Prices for haircuts at Cuts and Creps start at £23 and shoe cleaning prices range from £18 upwards, with trainers made by premium brands costing more.

Cuts and Creps is located at 90 Stokes Croft, BS1 3RJ. For more information or to book, visit Cuts and Crep's website.
