Stoke have announced the signing of the Danish goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard on a three-year deal.
The 23-year-old will officially join the club on 1 July having been a key member of the Midtjylland squad who have just won Denmark’s Superliga title.
“He is a goalkeeper that has been admired from afar by our first-team management for some time now so naturally we are pleased to have been able to conclude the deal,” said the Stoke chief executive, Tony Scholes. “With Thomas Sorensen departing this summer, adding an additional goalkeeper to the squad had been highlighted as something of a priority for us.”
Claus Steinlein, the Midtjylland sporting director, added: “We got a good offer from Stoke and at the same time it is a good opportunity for Jakob and we don’t want to stand in the way of that.
“It is big deal to send a player to the Premier League and we wish Jakob the best of luck. Stoke have kept an eye on him for a long time and they, like us, regard him as a big talent. He is a good boy you has developed really well. He is a big reason we won the league this season.”
