Stoke Newington stabbing: Man knifed to death on east London street

A man has been stabbed to death in the street in east London.

The victim, aged in his 30s, was found with a stab injury in Stoke Newington on Wednesday evening.

Police and paramedics descended on Matthias Road following reports of a stabbing shortly before 6pm.

They fought to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Police are working to inform his next of kin. At this early stage there have been no arrests.

"The Homicide and Major Crime Command will be informed. A crime scene is in place."

One witness described seeing a trauma helicopter land in the area, while another said there were lots of paramedics and police.

A Section 60 order has been authorised for the postcodes N16, N1 and E8, Scotland Yard said. The order gives police officers extra powers to use stop and search.
