Potters poised to sign defender permanently
James Chester is due to sign for Stoke City on a permanent basis.
The 31-year-old is a free agent after his contract at Premier League Aston Villa expired and he spent the second half of the 2019/20 campaign at the bet365 Stadium.
He played 16 times and helped Michael O’Neill’s side retain their Championship status.
StokeonTrentLive now report that Chester is expected to return to the club on a free transfer.

Sheffield United in £6m swoop for Swansea defender
Sheffield United are keen to sign Swansea City right-back Connor Roberts, according to The Sun.
The defender was a key figure for Steve Cooper as the Swans secured a play-off place last term, with Roberts becoming an established figure under Ryan Giggs for Wales in recent years.
And it's claimed that the Blades are willing to fork out £6m to take the 24-year-old to Bramall Lane.
On Twitter, journalist Alan Nixon wrote: "Sheff U. Want an extra left back. Connor Roberts at Swansea now on radar. As well as [Matty] Cash."
Forest man Cash makes transfer stance clear
Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash has made it clear he wants to leave the City Ground this summer amid interest from Premier League clubs, according to reports.
The 23-year-old scored three goals in 45 games for Forest last season as Sabri Lamouchi’s side just missed out on a place in the play-offs.
Sheffield United have already reportedly had a bid of £10m turned down for the Reds star.
But Football Insider reports that Cash wishes to join a Premier League club this transfer window after Forest failed to gain promotion.
As well as the Blades, West Ham United are also reportedly interested in Cash.
QPR enquire about second loan deal for West Ham striker
QPR are speaking to West Ham United over a second loan deal for striker Jordan Hugill.
West London Sport reports that the Loftus Road club have explored buying Hugill on a permanent basis, but that the Hammers would want a ‘sizeable’ transfer fee for the 28-year-old.
Hugill has two years left on his deal at the London Stadium and Rangers are looking for another loan deal.
The striker joined the Hammers from Preston North End in January 2018 for a reported £10m, but has made just a handful of appearances for the Premier League side.
