Stoke City star Joe Allen to miss Wales' Euro 2020 campaign in big blow for Ryan Giggs' side

Wales midfielder Joe Allen is set to miss the Euro 2020 campaign after rupturing his Achilles in Stoke City's match against Hull.

Allen was taken off the field on a stretcher and he now looks set to miss the rest of the season, and Wales' Euros campaign.

The Welshman had tripped over Hull's Danny Batty just before half-time and landed awkwardly, briefly limping on before going down, StokeonTrent Live report.

Medics ran on to give Allen attention and he received treatment for several minutes before exiting to a standing ovation.

Stoke boss Michael O’Neill confirmed in his post-match press conference that Allen had looked to rupture his Achilles.

O’Neill said : "Hopefully it’s not the case but it sounds like it’s not the news you hope for and he’ll have to go undergo surgery this week.

"It’s a huge loss. He’s a terrific player, a terrific lad.

"He had so much to look forward to not only at the end of the season but Euro 2020 as well with Wales. I’m gutted for the player and it’s taken a bit of shine off the victory."
