Stoke City interested in 12-goal striker linked with Rangers, Bristol City and Derby County

Stoke City have been linked with a move for Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes.

Bristol City were one of a number of Championship clubs said to be interested in the striker in January, with Derby County, Swansea City and Middlesbrough all also linked.

Livington's Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers also became linked in February, with Nikola Katic comparing him to Alfredo Moreles.

He told the Daily Record : "When you play against a striker like Dykes it’s always tough too because he is really good.

"Almost he’s on the same level as Alfredo and I think he will become a really top player, it is always hard to play against him."

Whilst the Robins instead signed Nahki Wells from Burnley, and a striker is not one of their priorities in the summer, interest in Dykes remains high.

Stoke on Trent Live report that the Potters are the latest club to have shown an interest in the 24-year-old.

The Potters have been keen on Aberdeen star Sam Cosgrove but feel that Dykes may well represent better value for money, with the Dons unwilling to let Cosgrove leave cheaply.

Dykes had scored 12 goals in 33 games for the Scottish Premiership club this season before the campaign was suspended.

Stoke boss Michael O'Neill has already indicated that they will look north of the border this summer for signings.

He said: "The problem people have with Scottish football is that they probably watch it on television and at times it doesn’t look like a great spectacle because at certain games the stadium is a little bit empty, while the other thing is you see games on artificial pitches.

“It’s about assessing the level of play and then try to benchmark whether those players could step up and play in the Championship.

“There’s players there that have clearly done that, the likes of John McGinn (Aston Villa) and Kenny McClean who went to Norwich, and both of them got promoted with their teams and were very important players to their teams.

“So it’s about trying to find that level of player.”
