Stoke City eye ex-Leeds United loanee Matthew Pennington as former Whites striker heads east

Stoke City are leading the chase for former Leeds United loanee Matthew Pennington.

According to the Sentinel , the Everton centre-back is wanted by a number of Championship clubs this summer, with Derby County and Wigan Athletic also keen on the 24-year-old.

Pennington has enjoyed two consecutive seasons in the Championship, with his first coming at Elland Road during the 2017/18 campaign, before the defender spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town.

Despite being a part of the side relegated at Portman Road, the Warrington-born youngster impressed his 30 appearances for the club, and Potters boss Nathan Jones now appears to be winning the race to secure the defender's signature.

Although it is yet to be known whether any potential deal for the youngster will be a permanent or a loan move, as he still has two-years remaining on his contract at Goodison Park.

Pennington made 24 appearances for the Whites during his year with club.

Meanwhile, another former Leeds loanee from the 2017-18 season is also moving clubs, with German striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga jetting out east to his new side.

The striker has joined Al-Arabi Sports Club, the Qatar-based side that Leeds signed Pablo Hernandez from.

Lasogga's contract with German side Hamburg has expired.
