Stoke City chairman Peter Coates pays £1k to get anti-Brexit campaigners to People's Vote march

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates is sponsoring three coaches to take campaigners from North Staffordshire to the 'Together for the final say' march this weekend.

The bet365 businessman - who was born and bred in Stoke-on-Trent - is among a number of well-known names from the business, entertainment and sporting worlds who have each agreed to pay £1,000 coaches to take campaigners from their hometowns to the demonstration in central London on Saturday. (19th)

More than 170 coaches have already been booked by local campaign groups across the UK to get to the march - which promises to be one of the largest protests Britain has ever seen.

As well as Stoke-on-Trent, coaches have been booked from Inverness in north Scotland and Penzance in Cornwall as well as Lincolnshire, Derby, Darlington and the Welsh Valleys.

This is the third time Mr Coates has put his hand in his pocket to fund transport to People's Vote marches - having also sponsored coaches last October and in March.

He said: "I’m delighted to once again be able to support the People’s Vote Campaign by helping to get campaigners from Stoke-in-Trent and Staffordshire to the “Together For The Final Say” march this Saturday.

"Boris Johnson needs to hear loud and clear that he must seek the British people’s consent before he inflicts his damaging Brexit on our country. Brexit is hitting jobs, businesses, our NHS and communities across the UK.

"Faced with the reality of Boris Johnson's destructive Brexit, more voters than ever before now say that the only way to solve this mess is to put the question back to the people.

"Whatever you think about Brexit, the only clear way out of this political mess is to give the people the final say."
