Dec. 02--Will one man's selfies turn into potential mugshots?
Stockton police say they are looking for an alleged cellphone thief who has been taking photos of himself that keep appearing on the victim's iCloud storage.
The victim told police his car was burglarized Nov. 12 in the 1100 block of Roosevelt Street and his iPhone was stolen, Stockton police Officer Joe Silva said.
Soon after, the victim began to notice that a man was taking selfies and continued to upload the photographs to his iCloud account, police said.
Hoping to identify the man in the selfies, police posted his photograph on Facebook and have already received numerous tips, Silva said.
A similar case was reported in August in Los Angeles County, where a Santa Clarita woman found selfies of an unknown couple on her online cloud storage after her home was burglarized.
Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in that case were able to track down the man, who claimed the cellphone was purchased by his aunt at a swap meet and given to him as a gift.
In the Stockton case, Silva said detectives want to identify the man in the selfies and interview him to determine whether he stole the cellphone.
