Stockport’s giant frog statues have raised more than £35,000 for charity at auction.
The public artwork, which was dotted around the town centre over the summer, drew in families over the school holidays.
However, the 'Giant Leap Forward' figures also drew in bids from scores of punters when they went under the hammer last week.
The money raised from the auction is going to St Ann’s Hospice, in Heald Green, which celebrated its golden anniversary in 2021.
“We are thrilled and grateful to have been selected by Totally Stockport as the frog auction’s chosen charity partner, especially in this, our 50th birthday year,” said Rachel McMillan, the hospice’s chief executive.
“The frog trail has been amazing and brought a real burst of colour and sense of community to Stockport throughout the summer. It’s sad to see them go but to have raised £35,000 for the hospice is fantastic.
“The support from our local community and businesses has a huge impact at the hospice.
“As a charity, we need to raise £20,000 a day to keep our hospice sites and community services running for local patients. We are so grateful to all the winning bidders who dug deep and whose generosity really does make a big difference.”
‘Rocky Stocky’ went for the largest fee, at £3,200, with ‘Mossy’ also breaking the £2,000-barrier at £2,250.
Other big winners on the night was ‘Spiderfrog’ at £1,150, ‘Froguristic’ at £1,040, ‘Frogwain’ netted £1,260, and ‘Isafrog Kingdom Brunel’ went for £1,300.
‘Tudor frog’, at £1,100, and ‘River Frog’, at £1,500, helped get the final total over the £30,000 mark — which was also given a welcome boost by Stockport County.
The club donated a very generous £3,000 to keep ‘Super Kevin Frogcis’ at Edgeley Park.
