Stockings available in vending machines in Japan

Women's stockings are being sold on a trial basis in vending machines, as many women claim that they want to change their stockings as soon as they run, leading textile manufacturer Gunze Ltd. announced Friday.

The company's Sabrina stockings series (500 yen) are available in drink vending machines in cooperation with major beverage company Dydo Drinco Inc. The packaging for the vending machine stockings has been simplified and made easier to open compared to those that are sold in stores.

According to a recent survey on stockings conducted by Gunze that included 600 women in their 20s to 60s, 74.9% of respondents said that they have experienced a sudden need to buy stockings. And more than 90% of the respondents said that they would like to change their stockings if they have a run.

Trials have been conducted at two locations, including the company's Osaka headquarters in Kita Ward, Osaka City. The company said they plan to expand the service to other companies across the country, mainly in offices where many women work.
