Two people have been injured in an explosion outside a metro station in Stockholm, Sweden, authorities said.
Police said a 60-year-old man picked something off the ground which then detonated outside the Varby Gard underground station.
The man and a 45-year-old woman have been taken to hospital, police told Swedish news agency TT. He was said to be in a serious condition.
The object the man picked up from the ground may have been a hand grenade, the Aftonbladet newspaper reported, though this is unconfirmed.
"I heard a huge bang," a local resident told the newspaper.
Lars-Ake Stevelind, a rescue official, told Swedish broadcaster SVT "someone has used some type of explosive material" for the object and police are investigating it.
Police said the station and surrounding area have been cordoned off while a bomb disposal squad carry out checks.
A spokesman said there was no reason to believe the explosion was terror-related.
The underground station and an adjacent square were closed while police carry out checks, they said in a statement.
It read: "According to information, the injured man picked up an object from the ground.
"This had then exploded and hurt the man seriously. He has been taken to hospital."
