Stockbrokers shine amid the gloom

The number of companies listing on Aim may have nearly halved this year according to the London Stock Exchange, but there have been a couple of recent positive developments for the UK's smaller stockbrokers.

Shares in Arden Partners have risen 5p to 131p following recent news that it had received a number of preliminary approaches - despite the broker ending talks with Cenkos Securities about a possible takeover.

Meanwhile Fox-Davies Capital, an investment bank and broker specialising in resources companies, has today started a new market making division, initially covering 40 stocks in the oil and gas sector. It has recruited staff from the likes of Landsbanki and Canaccord Adams and has ambitious growth plans for the future.
