Stockbridge 'young team' vandalise Edinburgh city centre parking meters while singing Coldplay

A group of young men were caught on camera in the well-to-do Edinburgh suburb of Stockbridge repeatedly kicking parking meters yesterday evening (25 July) on a sunny evening that was blighted by chaotic scenes around the city as scores of people met outside after weeks of lockdown.

A local man filmed the ruckus and posted it on Twitter, saying:

"Stockbridge’s young crew, singing Coldplay and damaging parking meters. I hope mummy and daddy are frightfully proud."

Police Scotland's 101 non-emergency lines were jammed last night as scores of people attempted to report antisocial behaviour - which spiked on the hottest day of the year, as people crammed outdoor spaces and broke mass gathering rules.

One of the Edinburgh Live team spent 30 minutes on hold to 101 at around 10pm before abandoning the call.

The most chaotic scenes were reserved for the Meadows, where police were handing out fines and arresting revellers.

Vast crowds gathered again to drink and enjoy the hottest day of the year so far. Party-goers even set up an impromptu rave with speakers and a soundsystem.

One shocked resident said: "It definitely had a music festival vibe, with folk leaving rubbish everyone, loud music, minimal distancing and folk using every corner as a toilet."
