Stock exchange could break record soon

Thai stocks opened down 0.07% at the start of trade this morning.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand main index opened at 1,725.44 points, down 1.23 points from Monday’s close. The trade value was 2.3 billion baht, with 579.77 million shares traded.

SET poised to break all-time record

The Stock Exchange of Thailand closed up 0.83% or 14.19 points to 1,726.67 on Monday, on course to surpass the all-time high set on January 4, 1994.

The index hit an all-time high 23 years ago on that day, when it reached 1,753.73.

Optimism prevailed after the prime minister affirmed last week a time frame for the general election in November next year.

Total trading value was 66.9 billion baht, with 16.9 billion shares changing hands.

The SET50 index jumped 1.02%, or 11.16 points, to 1,105.49 in trade worth 36.8 billion baht.

MAI climbed 0.05%, or 0.31 points, to 570.10 in transactions worth 2.1 billion baht.
