Stirling woman was caught with 1,000 'street valium' tablets in city street

A woman was caught with 1000 Etizolam tablets, otherwise known as ‘street valium’, in a Stirling street.

Eleanor Jaffray, of Sunnyside, St Ninians, had admitted a charge of possessing the class-C drug in Bannockburn Road on January 11 this year.

Etizolam, a benzodiazepine, is normally used to treat conditions like anxiety and insomnia and is more potent than the tranquilizer Valium or diazepam.

When the matter called for sentence at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday Sheriff Neil Bowie was told that 46-year-old Jaffray, formerly of Cuthill Court, Plean, had changed address at the beginning of this month.

As a result the letter to attend for an interview with social work had gone to her old address and no report was available.

Sheriff Bowie asked how many tablets were involved in the matter before the court and Jaffray’s lawyer Frazer McCready replied that there had been 1000.

Sheriff Bowie remarked: “That’s a significant number”.

Sentence was deferred for the criminal justice social work report – and restriction of liberty order assessment – previously requested until November 24.

Jaffray was granted bail with a condition to attend the social work office in Kerse Road, Stirling, on November 4 at 2pm.
