Stirling tops Covid infection rate table as Public Health Scotland announce 2,297 new cases

A further 2,297 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours – including 122 in Ayrshire.

Latest data published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland shows there are 933 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals – down 24 from Friday.

The number of people battling the virus in ICUs across the nation is 56 – down eight over the same period.

There are 127 Covid patients in Ayrshire hospitals - down five from yesterday - while eight people are being treated for the disease in intensive care.

No new deaths from the virus have been reported in the last 24 hours meaning Scotland's death toll remains at 8,792.

However, 11,134 deaths have been registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to Sunday, October 3.

In terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Stirling has the highest rate in the country – at 460.2 as of Sunday, October 10.

West Lothian has the second-highest infection rate at 454.2 while Dundee City is third with 446.8.

In terms of Ayrshire's local authorities, East Ayrshire has the highest rate of 404.6 North Ayrshire is next with 326.3 while South Ayrshire's rate sits at 242.6.

A total of 122 new cases have been reported in Ayrshire in the last 24 hours. Broken down, 48 were in East Ayrshire, 42 in North Ayrshire and 32 in South Ayrshire.
