Stirling's sporting sides come together to support those in need over summer

Stirling’s sporting heroes are joining forces to help struggling families this summer.

Stirling Albion Football Club, Stirling County Rugby Club and Stirling University Football Club are united in their resolve to support children living in hardship in the Stirling area over the holidays.

The Uniforms United campaign was launched last week, as part of the larger Start Up Stirling Get set for summer & school campaign.

When the players of the three clubs heard about the campaign, they wanted to inform their supporters about the difficulties that families living in hardship were facing, trying to find the money to buy new uniforms for their children before the start of the new term.

The three teams have joined together to produce a video, encouraging people to support the Uniforms United campaign and donate £5 via the Stirling Albion website shop at shop.stirlingalbionfc.co.uk.

This will help to provide children who are receiving crisis food support from Start Up Stirling with a new school uniform, school bag and contents before they go back to school for the new term.

The three clubs are also hoping to attract support from their fans for the programme (START UP STIRLING)

Stirling Albion have supported Start Up Stirling over a number of years, including their virtual pie and Bovril scheme, where people could watch matches being live streamed to their home during lockdown and had the opportunity to donate the equivalent amount of their favourite pie and Bovril to Start Up Stirling.

The Start Up Stirling Get set for summer & school campaign is asking for help so that families can be provided with the food and essentials they need this summer.

Start Up Stirling spokesperson Julie Christie said: “By supporting Start Up Stirling, people will be ensuring that families facing a crisis receive nutritious food and fresh goods when they need it most this summer.

“You will also be providing children and young people with new uniforms and essentials, helping to prepare them for the new term ahead and build their confidence and self-esteem.

“A donation of £17 could fund a school uniform for a child or young person facing hardship, ensuring they feel confident when they return to school, £25 could fund a school back pack filled with stationery and essentials, readying a child or young person for the new term ahead, and £45 could fund a family emergency food pack, containing essential items and fresh produce to provide nutritious meals for the whole family for three to four days.”
