Stirling's retail and hospitality businesses set to be given return date

The region is set to hear about the latest steps out of lockdown tomorrow - with the battered retail and hospitality sector among those preparing to hear when they can re-open their doors.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed at a press briefing earlier this afternoon that she will deliver a statement to Holyrood tomorrow outlining dates of when certain restrictions can be lifted.

It follows the return of the remainder of primary school age pupils to classrooms this morning, with secondary pupils also heading back on a phased basis to the Easter break.

The proposed changes will apply to areas including the current 'stay at home' order, the re-opening of non-essential retail and changes to guidelines on meeting up with other households.

Ms Sturgeon stressed the room for manoeuvre remained "quite limited", but said the statement would provide hope that "things will start to get a fair bit better in the weeks and months ahead".

She added: "I will seek to set out some details of what changes we hope to be able to make in early April - hopefully around 5th April - and what further easing we might expect to see in late April, then mid May, and in much less detail, beyond that.

"We can't provide certainty on everything, particularly the further into the future we look, but we will try to provide as much clarity now as is possible.

"So tomorrow’s statement will help people to understand when they can expect to see some of the key early milestones in the route back to normality.

"This will include the proposed date for the end of the “stay at home rule”, the reopening of shopping, outdoor and indoor hospitality, and further relaxations to the rules about meeting up with other households."

It follows a slight jump in the numbers testing positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, with another 456 cases reported in Scotland.

There are 447 people in hospital who have tested positive for Covid-19 - a decrease of 14 - while intensive care numbers have remained the same at 40.
