Stirling reaches longlist of eight in City of Culture competition

Stirling’s bid for the UK City of Culture 2025 has made it through to the next stage of the competition.

It is one of eight bids longlisted by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) from an original field of 20.

The winner, to be declared next year, will take on the baton from Coventry as the 2021 UK City of Culture which so far has attracted over £100m in capital investment to support cultural projects.

On the Stirling Council Twitter, they said: "We are absolutely thrilled that Stirling has today been announced as the sole Scottish bid to make the longlist for City of Culture 2025, boosting a bold aim to put culture at the heart of the area’s regeneration and growth ambitions. More to follow on this fantastic news!"

A partnership has been formed to back Stirling’s bid for the title which includes arts, education, heritage and cultural organisations including Artlink Central, the Macrobert Arts Centre, The Engine Shed, Creative Stirling, Stirling University, Big Noise, the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum, and Forth Valley College Creative Industries as well as Stirling Council.
