Stirling braced for first snow of 2022 as Met Office issues weather warning

Stirling is to see the first snowfall of the year after the Met Office issued a weather warning.

A yellow warning has been issued for snow on Thursday.

Forecasters say that snow may cause some travel disruption, especially over higher routes.

The warning is in place between 10am and 4pm on Thursday, January 6.

The warning is in place across central Scotland - including Stirling, Falkirk, Perth and Kinross and Angus.

Strathclyde, Grampian, southwest Scotland and Lothian Borders are also included in the warning.

A Met Office forecaster said: "A band of rain will move eastwards across the UK during Thursday, with this likely to fall as snow for a time, particularly over hills.

"Many places will see one-two hours of snow with a risk of temporary slushy accumulations above 100-150 m with snow leading to difficult travel conditions.

"A longer period of snow is expected over higher ground with 2-5cm likely above 200-300m, and 10-15cm above 400m. Over higher routes, strong winds will lead to drifting and temporary blizzard conditions."

In addition, a yellow warning for frequent sleet, hail and snow showers may lead to some disruption to travel during Thursday night and Friday morning.

That warning has been issued for Stirling and Falkirk between 8pm on Thursday and 11am on Friday.
