Stirling Albion boss admits side out for Bonnyrigg revenge

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young says his side will be out for revenge tomorrow as they welcome Bonnyrigg Rose, aiming to keep their unbeaten league run alive.

The New Dundas Park side have proved tough customers in their debut season in League Two and won the previous meeting between the sides this season, edging a tight affair in Midlothian courtesy of a 13th-minute Neil Martyniuk penalty.

However, they will be smarting from a shock 3-2 defeat to East of Scotland side Sauchie Juniors in the Scottish Cup last weekend, while the Binos will be riding high from a hard-fought penalty shootout win at Brechin.

Striker Robert Thomson was missing from the squad for that game, joining Jack Leitch among the regulars absent in Angus, while others were feeling the effects of a long 120 minutes as the players gathered for training on Tuesday.

But Young is confident that the strength of his squad will come up trumps as they hunt for their sixth league win on the spin.

The gaffer said: “It feels like we owe them one after losing at their place, we gave away a poor penalty and then had enough chances to take something from the game but we weren’t able to.

“They’ll also be looking to bounce back after last weekend and we want to continue the run that we are on at the moment and get the three points just to keep things going.

“We have a big enough squad to cope with whatever comes our way, Leitchy [Jack Leitch] will definitely be out and it’ll be touch and go on two or three others.

“We don’t want to put guys in who are struggling when we have a squad of players who are available and everyone in the squad has done the same
pre-season.

“I’ve had to go a little bit easier on them on Tuesday because of the numbers, especially having gone from playing on Astro to 120 minutes on a heavy pitch.”

The reward for the win in Angus is a tricky-looking tie against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the third round.

But Young is aware that his side will be travelling north on November 26 as underdogs against a side hoping to secure a return to the Premiership after narrowly missing out last season.

He added: “They’re up there at the top end of the Championship, we’ll go up there as underdogs but as in any cup tie, we’ll try and perform as we have been and see what we can get out of it.”
