Stirling Albion appoint former Aberdeen captain as new boss

Darren Young has been appointed as manager of League Two side Stirling Albion.

The former Aberdeen captain departed his role at League One club East Fife last month after over four years in charge, following a tough start to the season that left the Bayview club bottom.

He had been a steady manager for the Methil outfit, pushing towards the promotion play-off spots and earning a fifth placed finish in the 2019/2020 season before the Covid pandemic curtailed the term.

Young has also had success as manager of Albion Rovers and got the Cliftonhill club promoted from League Two to League One in 2015.

The Cambuslang man then fought against the odds to lead the Coatbridge club to their best third tier season start in the club's history, eventually finishing sixth.

Stirling Albion are sixth in League Two and one point outside the promotion play-off spots after Kevin Rutkiewicz left his position as boss earlier this month. They've lost six league games in succession.

A Binos statement reads: "The club board is delighted to announce that Darren Young has accepted the position as first team manager with immediate effect.

"We have no doubt that everyone involved with the club will join us in welcoming Darren to Forthbank and giving him their full support for the challenges that lie ahead."

Young started his playing career at Aberdeen and became the Dons' youngest ever captain during his eight-year stint between 1995-2003.

He also played with Dunfermline, Dundee, Queen of the South, Morton, Alloa and Albion Rovers.
