Stinger used to puncture car's tyres after six-mile police chase in Swansea

Police used a stinger device to stop a car following a six-mile chase, deflating all four of its tyres.

South Wales Police intercepted the car in Birchgrove Road in Swansea after the driver failed to stop just after midnight.

Morriston -based officers had pursued the car all the way from Clydach to the St Thomas area.

Stingers are spiked devices that can be placed on a road to puncture the tyres of a vehicle, causing it to stop.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "Officers from the Roads Policing Unit intercepted a vehicle on Birchgrove Road, Swansea , at approximately 12.05am on Friday, August 2, after the driver failed to stop when required.

"The car was seized and a 31-year-old man was reported for summons for failing to stop and driving other than in accordance with a licence."

South Wales Police's roads policing unit addressed the incident on its Twitter feed last night, using #Teamwork and #FeelingDeflated.

They wrote to their followers: "Pursuit from Clydach to St Thomas in Swansea. The car was stung in all four tyres by Morriston officers and the driver was forced to stop. The car was seized and the driver reported for offences."
