Stinger used on Falls Rd as police stop stolen Merc

An 18-year-old woman has been arrested with two men aged 21 and 22 in West Belfast after they were spotted in a stolen car on Falls Rd.

The Mercedes had been stolen during a creeper burglary in the early hours of Thursday, May 14.

Officers used a stinger device to stop the vehicle with the three on board around 1am on Saturday.

Police removed a large knife and a hammer from the vehicle which was stopped on Falls Rd.

PSNI Inspector Philip McCullagh said: “The silver Mercedes had been stolen during a creeper burglary at an address in Notting Hill, Belfast during the early hours of Thursday 14 May.

"A stinger device was deployed by officers in order to bring the vehicle to a safe halt.

"The three occupants, two males aged 21 and 22, and an 18-year-old female, were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary, theft, ‘taking and driving away’ and possession of an offensive weapon.

"A large knife and a hammer were found within the vehicle.

"The car has been recovered and all three suspects remain in police custody at present.”
