Watching for myself, it would be Lady Sings the Blues or Chariots of Fire. However, they would be run close by films my children have made me watch again and again when they were younger, with Wizard of Oz or Cheaper By the Dozen out in front Photograph: PR

The one I hope is made of my novel, All in the Mind. I dreamed the other night Liam Neeson played the main part Photograph: David Levene/Guardian
The same things as in real life – cruelty to children, snakes, dentists, needles (think Marathon Man) Photograph: The Kobal Collection/Kobal
Confusing endings. State of Play is a good recent example. Really enjoyed the film but needed to go back to find out what happened Photograph: Universal/Everett /Rex Features/Rex Features
Witty dialogue. Clever facial gestures. That silly Woody Allen film with Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) had lots of both Photograph: Weinstein/Everett/Rex Features/Rex Features
Conclusion of buildup of tension. Great moments – Milk was fabulous for the way it caught great moments in campaigns, for example. The gold medal scene in Chariots of Fire Photograph: PR
Pretty much anything. Births, deaths, marriages. I'm a sucker for father-child bonding scenes (The Full Monty, Cheaper By the Dozen, Field of Dreams). Also moments of success after huge effort (back to Chariots of Fire). Emotional stories where good emerges from bad – like Calendar Girls. Malcolm Tucker, I guess. I probably shouldn't admit this, but found myself suffering occasional moments of identification with Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men. Talk about being focused and disciplined Photograph: PR
