Stills life: Alastair Campbell

Cheaper by the Dozen
What film have you seen most often?
Watching for myself, it would be Lady Sings the Blues or Chariots of Fire. However, they would be run close by films my children have made me watch again and again when they were younger, with Wizard of Oz or Cheaper By the Dozen out in front

Lady Sings the Blues
What's the best film you've ever seen?
Lady Sings the Blues, Chariots of Fire, Jean de Florette or The Lives of Others

What's the best film you've never seen?
The one I hope is made of my novel, All in the Mind. I dreamed the other night Liam Neeson played the main part

Marathon Man
What scares you?
The same things as in real life – cruelty to children, snakes, dentists, needles (think Marathon Man)

State of Play
What angers you?
Confusing endings. State of Play is a good recent example. Really enjoyed the film but needed to go back to find out what happened

Vicky Cristina Barcelona
What amuses you?
Witty dialogue. Clever facial gestures. That silly Woody Allen film with Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) had lots of both

Alastair Campbell SL: Milk
What excites you?
Conclusion of buildup of tension. Great moments – Milk was fabulous for the way it caught great moments in campaigns, for example. The gold medal scene in Chariots of Fire

The Full Monty
What makes you cry?
Pretty much anything. Births, deaths, marriages. I'm a sucker for father-child bonding scenes (The Full Monty, Cheaper By the Dozen, Field of Dreams). Also moments of success after huge effort (back to Chariots of Fire). Emotional stories where good emerges from bad – like Calendar Girls. Sad, funny, sad, funny

No Country for Old Men
If you were a baddie, who would you be?
Malcolm Tucker, I guess. I probably shouldn't admit this, but found myself suffering occasional moments of identification with Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men. Talk about being focused and disciplined

Baz Luhrmann's Australia
What's the most striking landscape you've seen on film?
Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources. Australia. No Country for Old Men

Hugh Jackman in X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Who do you wish you looked like?
Hugh Jackman (here in X-Men Origins: Wolverine)

Alastair Campbell SL: Sex and the City
Who do you think you look like?
Asked my daughter. She said Big from Sex and the City. I've never seen it
