Still time to win a holiday of lifetime in Fred. Olsen's 'Cruises for Community Heroes' competition

There is still time to nominate someone to win a cruise who is making a difference to their community in the North East.

Earlier this month, ChronicleLive teamed up with Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines to offer 20 cruises in the "Cruises for Community Heroes" competition. We've already had a raft of entries, but we want to hear more stories of people doing amazing things in their local communities.

It could be someone who goes the extra mile for children or older people, someone who has given their all for a local charity, or a person who has stepped up for their community during the Covid pandemic and/or cost of living crisis. All nominations will be considered by a panel of judges with the winners receiving a cruise for two with Fred. Olsen.

You could be sending your unsung hero to venture into the Arctic, sail through 30,000 islands on the way to the Swedish capital Stockholm, or seek out whales along the Scottish coast in summertime. And the good news is that there is no strict criteria on who can win.

Peter Deer, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Managing Director, said: "We'd love to hear about as many of these community heroes as possible, so we can invite them on board and thank them for everything they do. I think it’s just a matter of people coming to us and saying ‘this is what this person has done’.

“It really could be anything, such as supporting arts in the local community in a different way, helping people who are much older, or supporting young people getting back into education - there is no 'one size fits all' approach - it's about finding special people in the community, and providing them with a fantastic experience aboard our ships in return."

Sophie Barley, ChronicleLive Editor, added: "ChronicleLive is delighted to team up with Fred. Olsen for this competition. It is a great opportunity for our readers to highlight and thank people in our community who go the extra mile.

"We are not short of inspiring people in the North East, and we look forward to hearing your stories about our local heroes."
