Still no Tory probe into Scots MP Ross Thomson six months after drunken grope claim

Conservative chiefs have still to investigate alleged against a Scottish Tory MP - almost six months after they were first made.

Ross Thomson, the MP for Aberdeen South, was escorted out of the Strangers’ Bar in the House of Commons in February after allegedly drunkenly groping men.

Although the 31-year-old was spoken to by police at the time over alleged “sexual touching”, no formal complaints were made and no charges were brought.

But Thomson immediately referred himself to the Tory party’s national disciplinary panel so the incident could be fully probed.

He has always robustly denied claims he assaulted anyone and later said in a statement issued on Twitter: “I would like to state that these allegations from anonymous sources are completely false.”

The politician – who is running Boris Johnson’s leadership campaign north of the Border – added: “No complaint has been made to the police, Parliament or the Conservative Party.”

Thomson also said he was referring himself to the Conservative Party’s Disciplinary Panel of the Code of Conduct. But a Tory insider revealed the matter had still to be dealt with.

A source said: “The inquiry has still to take place.”

It is understood that, under the Tories’ disciplinary code, the MP will be required to provide a statement and face an inquiry by at least three people appointed by the party chairman.

The findings of the panel are then presented to the chairman, leader or board.

Last night, Thomson declined to comment.

On his behalf, a spokesman said: “Questions relating to any investigation and timescales are a matter for the UK party, so I refer you to CCHQ on that.”

Despite repeated calls and emails to the Tory headquarters in London, they declined to answer any questions put to them.

Speaking at the time of the alleged incident, senior Tory figures in Scotland voiced their dismay.

Scottish Conservative deputy leader Jackson Carlaw said: “Inquiries are ongoing.

"However, I know enough to say the alleged behaviour is completely unacceptable and falls well below the standard any of us would expect of an elected representative.”
