'Still in our hands!' What Brighton and Cardiff City fans are now saying about the battle for Premier League survival

Brighton's last-gasp defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening means the battle for Premier League survival remains very much alive heading into the last three weeks of the season.

Christian Eriksen's stunning strike two minutes from time was enough to deny Brighton a crucial point, leaving the Seagulls three points clear of Cardiff - and the relegation trapdoor.

Brighton, who haven't scored in six games, will now be nervously looking over their shoulder in the battle to avoid the drop, and could even be level on points with the Bluebirds by the time they take on Newcastle United in Saturday's evening kick-off.

Cardiff travel to already-relegated Fulham earlier that afternoon and, looking at their respective run-ins, will surely be increasingly confident about their chances of catching Chris Huighton's charges.

What Brighton's defeat at Tottenham means for Cardiff City in Premier League survival race

It's going to be a nerve-shredding few weeks, but by the look of what Brighton fans are saying on social media, it appears many on the south coast are still confident their side can hold their nerve and preserve their Premier League status for another season.

Cardiff City v Liverpool post-match reaction

One fan said: "Match or Better Cardiffs result Saturday and we will stay up. Even if we both Draw. Goal difference will see us over the line."

Another played down any rumours of a dressing room rift between the players and boss Hughton, while another insisted "it's in our hands".

A number of fans were impressed by Brighton's defensive performance in the last two games, but admitted that the lack of goals at the other end is continuing to be a worry.

Meanwhile, Cardiff fans, while proud to see their team defy the critics by remaining in the hunt for Premier League survival, fully admit they're still "big underdogs".

However, many believe that a win over Fulham on Saturday could tilt the odds in Cardiff's favour.

One fan said: "If we beat Fulham on Saturday that puts huge pressure on Brighton for the late kick off. It’s not over yet".

However, some are a little concerned that Newcastle United may not be in the right mental state to do Cardiff a favour at the Amex on Saturday evening.
