With the postponement of the Tokyo Games to this year, the law on national holidays was revised in November, but many 2021 calendars already sold do not reflect the correct holidays.
This year, Marine Day has been moved to July 22 and Sports Day to July 23 to coincide with the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. Mountain Day has been shifted to Aug. 8 to coincide with the closing ceremony. Similar adjustments were made last year for the Tokyo Games when it was supposed to be held in 2020.
Most calendars were printed before this latest revision of the law, so the above dates are not indicated as public holidays.
Calendar maker Try-X Corp., based in Yashio, Saitama Prefecture, is one such company producing stickers to reflect the actual holidays.
The company makes about 300 different calendars every year. It has created five different sticker sizes with numbers in red indicating holidays.
"We prepared the stickers because we wanted to somehow make the calendars accurate," said Hiroshi Numahata, the company's president. "We want to get them to as many people as soon as possible."
The company's stickers will go on sale Feb. 1 at stationery stores and other such shops across the nation.
